this week’s bouquet

I was out watering the raised beds because, believe it or not, we haven’t had any rain for 3 days in a row.  While watering, I was contemplating the things I needed to do on Sunday afternoon to get ready for the work week.  I was going to make a bouquet for my desk at the office and decided if I laid the hose down and let it deep water, I could make my bouquet right outside.

It was so easy.  I could cut, get the flowers into water immediately, and all the mess and bugs that always want to come along, are outside.  Why didn’t I think of this before?

I decided to make the bouquet with what was available right where I was watering in my favorite garden colors . . . pinks, purples, blues, and whites.  I did cheat and threw in two pale yellow zinnias.

Just a little of this, and a little of that, can make a delightful bouquet.

I started with my zinnias I grew from seed, which are really making the raised beds a delightful place to be.  I can’t seem to stop looking at or taking pics of them.

Added some salvia that is in numerous shades of blue and purple.

The cilantro had gone to flower, so I added it for fluff and it’s delicate white flowers.

A few snaps and one verbena and that was all it took to make a feast for the eyes and soul.  Anyone could make this bouquet with easily grown cilantro from seed and a couple market packs of zinnias, salvia, and snaps, started in the spring.

So right here, among the tomatoes (which the opportunistic deer have eaten to nubs) is my bouquet for the week.  I hope it brings you as much cheer as it brings me.

Happy Monday!

  1. I am exactly the same with zinnas – can’t stop gazing or taking photos! Your vase is lovely, and reminds me that I actually need to pick from my cutting patch because so far I haven’t made a single vase!! You have a lovely way with combining them.

    1. Thank you Ali. I think zinnias are fast becoming my favorite flower. Not sure exactly whether it’s their simplicity, sweetness, or happy faces, but they always make my heart smile.

  2. Lovely colours. You keep making me wonder if I could plant enough cutting flowers to create my own vase each week, it would certainly save my husband a fortune as he buys me a bunch of flowers every 10 days or so.

    1. I am enjoying the flowers so much more than the vegetables. The deer keep eating my veg, but they don’t bother the flowers, so why not. I think next year I’ll reserve just one of the four beds for veg and the other three will be cutting flowers. They bring so much joy to me and make the garden a happier place, not only for me, but I’ve had an increase in bees and butterflies this year. I say “go for it!”
