I’m not a huge cookie fan, but at Christmas, it’s cookie time, and I indulge with a few varieties.
I bought these cut glass cookie jars at least 35 years ago at the Williamsburg Pottery Factory in Virginia. I don’t fill them every Christmas, but because of nostalgia, I can’t bring myself to part with them either.
With Covid this year, people aren’t exchanging or sharing food. And since I live alone, filling them up, usually means I have to eat them all myself.
Since I was decorating the kitchen with my collection of green vintage shiny brights, I decided to hang a few around their necks.
Vintage shiny brights are a favorite of mine. And how nicely they couple up with my vintage McCoy mixing bowl.
Full disclosure, I have to admit I have eaten all of the cookies in these jars already. With a little help from my daughter, but mostly by myself. But it’s Christmas . . . so why not indulge? January is for eating healthy and losing weight. December is not.
These are my favorites . . . filled with dates and nuts.
And I might as well add a cup of hot chocolate while I’m at it.
I hope it’s cookie time at your house so I’m not eating alone.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and healthy New Year.

I used to make cookies to give away at Christmas but I’d stopped that even before we were hit by the pandemic. My husband’s dietary restrictions severely limit all salt and he’s careful about his sugar intake as well so I’d have to try passing anything I bake off to neighbors or do drive-by drop-offs for friends (which is tempting!). Still, I love your antique ornaments and note that the colors you’ve selected would look perfect with the kitchen countertops we installed last year so maybe I should work on my own ornament collection! I love the Santa mug too.

I could decorate solely with vintage ornaments and pine. Maybe I’ll make that my goal for simplifying.
My kitchen is white with light green upper walls and soft gray countertops. For me, it’s a quiet and peaceful combination that goes well with everything and especially houseplants.
I found all of my ornaments at flea markets, but sadly, there weren’t any of those this year, especially the one at Thanksgiving where it’s easiest to find a nice selection.

Beautiful cookie jars Cindy. I made a few this year, but we will be going on a diet right after Christmas! I have found far too many excuses for snacking this year! I have a collection of cookie tins that always come out for my Christmas cookies… only two this year though, and we are rationing them. 😉 But like you say, at Christmas they are allowed. Maybe you should make a few more as we still have a good 10 days until January! 😉

Ha ha Cathy. I did make more already. I have such a sweet tooth. But surprisingly, I think I’ve had my fill of sugar for awhile. Christmas is the perfect excuse for overeating, isn’t it?

The cookie jars are beautiful and I love the Santa mug.
Each Christmas I make (literally) about a thousand gingersnaps to give to colleagues, family and friends.
Cindy says
That is an awful lot of cookies and baking. I’m not that fond of baking, but I bet your friends and family have come to cherish your generous gingersnap gift.

Beautiful jars and still lifes, Cindy, and you’re right to make and enjoy the cookies. I’m not really in Christmas mood yet but it’ll come hopefully when I start decorating the tree today. Wishing you a peaceful Christmas time 🙂
