Two weeks ago, it was in the 70’s. Last weekend it was in the 20’s with several inches of snow and bitter winds. This week we’ve had 3 days of 70’s again. So goes March . . . up and down, and all over the place. But the comforting thing is, as you tick each day off of the calendar, you know, you just know, spring is getting closer, and winter must soon relent.
Every warm day presents an opportunity to fiddle in the garden. Retirement has allowed me to do a lot of fiddling this March, and I have the sore muscles to prove it. But retirement has also allowed me the luxury to slow down and “just sit”.
Sitting is something I never had time to do when working full time. Sadly, a whole lifetime can go by before you realize the importance of just sitting, relaxing, and soaking in the moment. That all the rushing we thought was important, simply is not.
So even though the weather will turn again, I decided to bring the table out of storage and drag out the greenhouse plants. And today, together we will sit and celebrate the coming of spring.
With a few plants as company, you can almost forget everything else around you is still barren and brown.
I made the mistake of putting the Agapanthus in a warm greenhouse all winter, and she has twelve inches of too much growth to show for it. She’ll be blooming early this year, but even without her flowers, she makes a lovely centerpiece.
I hope wherever you live, you are getting a taste of spring and finding time to “just sit”.

Ha! Spring arrives early with a big bang here, making me more busy than usual. Still, our slow period will come – I sit out a lot of the hot days of summer. I hope you enjoy the warm spells and that spring soon brings you many more of them!

From all your lovely photos of the flowers you grow, I cannot tell any difference between your seasons. From your posts there doesn’t seem to be any stop or start, but I’m sure you notice it.
Here, spring is a major cleanup time. There is as much to clean up in the spring as in the fall, and because the winters are so damp, there is algae on everything that needs scrubbed. Every square inch of the outside of my house needs painted, not to mention the picket fences and the shed. My next house and gardens will certainly be more maintenance free if I ever move.
Mid summer here is akin to winter. The weather too extreme to do much of anything. Most of my summer gardening is started at 6am or as soon as the sun is up, and ends by 9:30am. After that, the humidity is a killer. Spring and fall are the only times we have California type weather, so I try to make the very most of those seasons.

I am happy you are getting some warmer days at last Cindy! Your Agapanthus look so healthy. It is sunny here, but the icy east wind keeps driving me back indoors. But with a wonderful forecast this week I will be outdoors again and will be sure to make time to just sit. I shall think of you when I do. 🤗

Those icy winds can ruin a perfectly sunny day, but I think I’d rather bundle up to garden than be sweating, so I try to make the most of all weather, except rain of course. Spring come to stay, can’t be far away.
