This week’s bouquet is as simple as it gets. These are simply zinnias plopped in jars, prepared to go out to my front yard for people walking by to take.
I pick zinnias several times a week to set out for the neighbors. I pick the plants clean and prepare as many vases as I can. Within a few days, there is a whole new crop to cut.
I don’t spend a lot of time arranging them to perfection since I will be setting out dozens of arrangements over the course of the summer. Just getting them in a jar is my only goal. I’m sure when people get them home, they rearrange them anyways.
I don’t seem to have a lot of different colors this year to play with. I grow my plants from seed, but I also give away half of my starts to a friend. The labels sometimes get rearranged or lost, and she must have received the wider selection of colors that I usually have.
But even with a limited color palette this year, they radiate sunshine and happiness like no other flower in my yard.
Zinnias are summer in a jar and always make me smile.

Having gotten a very late start, my zinnias are barely seedlings at this stage. Yours look beautiful and very cheerful, Cindy!

I usually start mine indoors in April so they are ready to go out in mid May after the last frost. I may have started even earlier this year because when I pinch them back, I root the part I pinch off to make more plants and I wanted them to have time to adjust.
