Lakeside is a Methodist run Chautauqua on the shores of Lake Erie. There is no place quite like Lakeside, Ohio. It is like stepping back in time to a more simple and quiet lifestyle.
Many of the homes and cottages are Victorian style and are over 100 years old. In the summer months, porch living is a way of life here.
Many interiors also harken back to Victorian times with antique furniture and delightful decor.
Some homes are in disrepair, but many have been remodeled, updated, and are stunning to behold.
This row of beauties stand tall and majestic, overlooking the lake.
Lakeside is the kind of community where it is safe to allow your children to roam freely. There is a putt putt course that overlooks the lake. There are parks and shuffleboard courts. Little shops and restaurants. People get around mostly by golf carts, bikes, or walking.
Lakeside is a place where most roads end at the lake.
Leisure living is what you come for . . .
. . . strolling and sitting are a way of life here.
There is a gazebo for small concerts . . .
a lovely pavilion overlooking the lake with a long pier for walking and sun bathing . . .
and a grand, old hotel that sits on the lakefront. It is decorated in the Victorian style, and has a wraparound porch where sitting in their rocking chairs is the ultimate relaxing past time.
One of my favorite parts of Lakeside are all the beautiful flowers. They seem to thrive off the nearby water, harsh winds, and cold winters on the lake. They are sturdier and more stunning than anything I grow in my warmer sheltered city garden.
And lastly . . . my favorite place to stroll . . . along the rocky shore with beauty on all sides.
What a charming place to have a leisurely weekend. I love the old Victorian houses and can imagine sitting relaxing on one of those porches on a hot afternoon.
It is a sweet place on innocence and days gone by. I like to think of it as “America used to be”.
