Winter makes an entrance in central Ohio anytime around Thanksgiving, but comes in earnest by January. Snow for Christmas is a rather rare treat. But this year, we are on our second incredibly beautiful snow.
A wet snow that clings is stunning in all its glory. It transforms everything from drabness to winter splendor, and is akin to living inside a snow globe.
Every branch hangs low . . .
and every twig is outlined.
Every shape takes on new dimension and beauty . . .
and every pattern revealed.
Usually a good wind will strip everything of its beauty in a very short matter of time. But this loveliness goes on and on, like winter was meant to be.
It becomes a very black and white world, with 50 shades of gray in-between. It looks like the perpetual winter of Narnia.
I’ve always loved my house dressed in winter. It blends right in with all the black, white, and gray.
The garland on the picket fence even looks more festive iced with snow.
Trampling around in the snow led me back to the greenhouse, which I decided to heat this winter with an oil-filled radiator heater. Even the leafless climbing rose on the arbor looked enchanting and welcoming.
A quick stop inside to check on the temperature and the plants was a feast of color in this otherwise black and white world.
Inside, my Wendy’s Wish Salvia is still as beautiful as in its summer glory.
Still green, still blooming, and still emitting her unique heavenly perfume.
I hope you have enjoyed our winter fantasy land and a little visit with summer.

Your photos are absolutely beautiful, Cindy. I’ve never actually seen a winter display like that in person – it looks like something out of a fairy tale. The small touches of color from your chimney and the ribbon on your garland stand out in stark relief, as if they were touched up by a painter. And the color of the Salvia in your greenhouse is more pronounced – almost florescent – by virtue of the contrast with the preceding photos.

Thank you Kris. These are the wonders of winter in all its splendid glory. Winter is my least favorite season, but every year, I try a little harder to embrace it. Now that I’m working from home and don’t have to travel in it, I enjoy it all the more. Watching snow fall from the warm comfort of your home is one of the most mesmerizing things there is. I find winter to be my sabbath, an excuse to be lazy, curl up with a blanket and a book, or do nothing at all. And a beautiful snow such as this, is the icing on the cake.

Thank you Cathy. No picture does justice to God’s stunning creativity. We don’t have snow a lot of the winter, and it often melts within a few days, then turns ugly brown again. So any snow display is a welcome reprieve from winter drabness. It even makes the cloudy gray days more beautiful. The worst is yet to come in January, but working from home is teaching me to love and enjoy winter in a way you can’t when you always have to go out and fight the elements. I come from a family of sleepy heads, so winter is my hibernation time, and a welcome excuse to sleep as much as I want.
Have a wonderful holiday season with your family and I hope you are all well and healthy.
